To design and optimize the controller of an electric drive system, the model and parameters of an electrical machine must be well known. In this paper, a new experimental method for identifying a stator inductance of a synchronous reluctance motor, called “Voltage Stepping Method” is presented. The first part of the paper briefly presents the model of a reluctance synchronous motor in state space. After that, we conduct an experiment to identify the inductance parameters of a 15 kW, 8.000 rpm synchronous reluctance motor. The identified parameters are used to simulate the motor performance.
